Aqua-Flora Mats
Aqua-Flora mats, also known as shore mats or vegetation mats, consist of coir fiber mats (5x1m) in which various shore and marsh plants are pre-grown. In practice, they are also referred to as aquatic plants. After planting, the mats are placed in the basins, where they remain for at least one full growing season to develop an optimal root and rhizome package.
This pre-growth period is one of the unique aspects that distinguish our Aqua-Flora products. Along with the high density of plants per square meter and the carefully selected vegetation species, our mats offer undeniable environmental benefits. This makes our Aqua-Flora mats truly unique.
Application
Aqua-Flora mats are particularly suitable for applications in pond berms and on gentle shore slopes. These mats are fastened with untreated wooden stakes. On shore slopes, the Aqua-Flora mats are installed 50% above the waterline and 50% below the waterline. The ideal water depth for using Aqua-Flora mats is 10 cm.
Aqua-Flora mats are often used to create ecological connectivity zones, to quickly vegetate shores in new construction locations, and generally to enhance (urban) waters.
For greening shores in larger waters, Aqua-Flora mats are well-suited to be combined with gabions (see also Nautilus Gabions B.V.) or gabion mattresses. Additionally, Aqua-Flora mats can serve as helophyte filters, especially for small-scale water purification in rural areas where connecting to the sewage system is costly.

Customization
If you or your client wish to devise or have already drafted a plant scheme, that’s not a problem! Almost anything is possible. However, please note that this may affect the delivery time.
Do you have completely different plant species in mind? Together, we’ll assess whether they are suitable for pre-growing in our mats. Please be aware that, in addition to a longer lead time, there may be additional costs depending on the chosen plant species.
Anti-grazing Construction
When installing Aqua-Flora mats in areas with many waterfowl, we recommend using an anti-grazing construction. This ensures that the plants can root firmly in the ground during the initial period. After this phase, the anti-grazing construction can be removed, significantly reducing the risk of uprooting. The standard anti-grazing construction consists of a row of bamboo stakes with mesh folded over them, secured with cable ties or staples. If necessary, this standard construction can be deviated from. Grazing, trampling, etc., are not covered by the warranty.
Maintenance and Warranty
Aqua-Flora mats and rolls require little to no maintenance. For those who have no time or interest in performing maintenance themselves, we offer professional support in the form of maintenance contracts. Our standard maintenance advice is available for download.
We provide a warranty on our Aqua-Flora materials, provided they are installed by us. The warranty terms are detailed in our quotations.
