AQF Eco-Floatlands®
The AQF Eco-Floatland® is our most robust floating island. This sustainable, ecological product offers a fully cradle-to-cradle floating island (or floating garden), while maintaining the same basic principles as the Aqua-Flora Floatland. Both consist of two parts, comprising a floating body and vegetation.
The difference lies in the materials used for the floating body of the AQF Eco-Floatland®. This floating body consists of a construction of mesh panels. Inside this construction, a coir mat is placed, into which glass foam blocks and cork for extra buoyancy are then inserted. The construction is sealed with pneumatically placed C-rings. Upon arrival at the location, the floating elements are provided with P9 planting.
We recommend a minimum size of 2000x1500x100mm (LxWxH) for the buoyancy of the island. For greater buoyancy, the floating body can be made higher, based on project-specific requirements.
Anchoring of the AQF Eco-Floatlands® can be done in various ways. This can be done, among other methods, by placing poles all around, with the island attached to the poles with straps, allowing the island to move with the changing water level. Another option is to keep the island in place with a weight anchor or to attach the islands to the existing shore/quay with a yet to be determined anchoring method.

Application and Ecology
AQF Eco-Floatlands® are particularly suitable for application along vertical (dam) walls, in waterways with a strongly fluctuating water level, or in the middle of a pond. With these AQF Eco-Floatlands®, you can create a nature-friendly shore in no time!
In addition to the aesthetic aspect, AQF Eco-Floatlands® offer various benefits. Floating islands promote biodiversity and contribute to a greater variety of plant species. They have also shown positive effects on micro- and macrofauna and fish stocks. The use of all our Aqua-Flora materials also has a water-purifying effect and contributes to improved water quality. This takes an important step towards achieving the objectives of the Water Framework Directive.
Plant Schemes
We offer various standard plant schemes that you can download from the relevant page. The vegetation we use for our floating islands is all native.

Customization
If you or your client wish to devise or have already drafted a plant scheme, that’s not a problem! Almost anything is possible. However, please note that this may affect the delivery time.
Do you have completely different plant species in mind? Together, we’ll assess whether they are suitable for application in our floating islands. Please be aware that, in addition to a longer lead time, there may be additional costs depending on the chosen plant species.

Anti-grazing Construction
When applying AQF Eco-Floatlands® in areas with many waterfowl, we recommend using an anti-grazing construction. This ensures that the vegetation can root sufficiently during the initial period. After this phase, the anti-grazing construction can be removed, significantly reducing the risk of uprooting. The standard anti-grazing construction consists of a row of bamboo stakes with mesh folded over them, secured with cable ties or staples. If necessary, this standard construction can be deviated from. Grazing, trampling, etc., are not covered by the warranty.
Maintenance and Warranty
We offer a warranty on our Aqua-Flora materials, provided they are installed by us. In the case of the floating islands, there is a warranty if regular maintenance is carried out. Maintenance is necessary for the preservation of the construction of our floating islands. Without this maintenance, the warranty also expires.
The warranty terms are detailed in our quotations.
