Nature-Friendly banks in Zoetermeer

On behalf of the Municipality of Zoetermeer, we installed AQF Eco-Floatlands at multiple locations in Zoetermeer. In total, the new environmentally friendly riverbanks cover 340m² (!). This is one of our largest projects involving floating islands, and we are very proud of it. We also learned a lot from this project.

Regarding the planting scheme, the municipality chose to customize an existing scheme to their preferences.

Additionally, a temporary anti-grazing structure was placed along the entire stretch. Anti-grazing structures are typically installed as a temporary measure. This ensures that the plants can firmly root in the ground during the initial period. After this phase, the anti-grazing structure can be removed, significantly reducing the risk of uprooting.

Furthermore, at one location, an edge plank was placed along the islands as an additional wave breaker.
